There is beauty everywhere you go.
One of the greatest skills we can develop, and encourage our children to develop, is the ability to see the beauty in everything. Don’t look for things to be perfect. That’s never the point. Understand that there is good and bad in everything, pros and cons to every situation, ups and downs every day.
That is the beauty of life.
Don’t look for perfection, or you will be looking to be unhappy. When you delude yourself into thinking you will find perfection, you will always be looking.
Instead, learn to see the beauty in everything. When you understand and believe that it is there, you open yourself up to seeing it.
Imagine being able to walk into every situation knowing something good is going to happen. Imagine arriving in any city in the world and knowing you will be pleased with what you see, because knowing beauty is there means also knowing it will greet you.
Imagine meeting a new person and knowing they are wonderful before knowing anything about them. Are they perfect? No, and neither are you. But remember, you are not looking for or expecting perfection. You are acknowledging beauty.
When we look at the world and can’t see past the bad, the ugly, the evil, then we rob ourselves of embracing beauty and love. We rob ourselves of peace and friendships. We teach this worldview to our children without saying a word.
Instead, when we acknowledge the beauty in everything, it is so much easier to also accept its imperfections.
This is not the same as turning a blind eye to pain and suffering. To the contrary, when our eyes are wide open to the beauty in the world, we are more likely to have an open heart when we see someone in need. When we see injustice, we are not poised in a position of anger, but instead we are better able to work together to find solutions.
Here are 3 simple things we can do to help us see more beauty every single day:
1 – PRACTICE GRATITUDE – Try to incorporate moments of gratitude throughout your day. Slow down, look around you, and find one thing you are grateful for.
2 – JUDGE LESS – Judging people and situations produces negative emotions, and when you are in a state of negativity you are certain to miss out on beauty. The next time you find yourself passing judgement, step back and assume a neutral position.
3 -OPEN YOUR HEART – At the end of the day, we have more similarities than differences. We all want to be happy and we all have our own way of getting there. When we have an open heart, we have more compassion, and beauty is at our fingertips.
Let’s take a moment each day to incorporate these new habits into our lives. Do you have any of your own to add to this list? Share in the comments below and you will be passing along a little of your own beauty.
Till Next Time,
