I don’t know where the last 21 days have gone, but my calendar is telling me that it’s OVER. The Crazy Sexy You Wellness Program is now over and it’s been amazing, once again.
It’s a little bittersweet though, as part of me always wants to continue, while another part of me breathes a sigh of relief. So I thought I would write a different kind of post this time and do a little Pros/Cons list for you.
PROS:
Reasons I’d love to continue the program…
Meal Plan: I just love having a meal plan to follow. This goes for when someone else has done the work of creating it, and also when I make my own meal plan.
The main reason that meal planning works for me is that once it’s done and posted on the fridge there is no more need to think, and no need to wonder what I’m in the mood for. I don’t rummage through the cupboards to see what ‘looks’ good. I just check the meal plan, take out the ingredients and start cooking.
Shopping: Ok, this is the fun part. The program comes with a shopping list, so once again, there’s very little thinking on my part. It’s not that I don’t like to think, but there is no questioning.
What looks good? What should I buy? What if I decide what I’m in the mood to make for dinner, but I’m missing one key ingredient? Well, it doesn’t happen on this plan.
You check the menu for today, go to the fridge and take out what you need. It’s always there. What a cool concept.
Whole Food Eating: Ok, it’s a bit of work but it’s still on the ‘pros’ list. We are spending a fair amount of time in the kitchen. But when you think about it, our bodies are meant to eat REAL food, not something made in a factory and taken out of a package 20 minutes before we sit down at the table.
Something else I’ve learned is that for those days when I really don’t have time to cook, that’s where something called Batch Cooking comes in handy.
What is it? Well, once a week (Sundays on this plan) we spend a little extra time in the kitchen and make a double batch of something. Then we freeze the surplus in meal-sized containers for later.
Then, on a day I know I won’t be home early enough to make a healthy meal from scratch, I just pull it out of the freezer in the morning and voila! No fast food for this girl!

CONS:
Reasons I’m happy to be done…
Choosing my own menu: Ok, I know this one will sound a little contradictory, but I actually DO like to think, and I’m happy to come up with my own meal plan.
While it was a nice treat to be able to have this done for me for 21 days, I’m now happy to be back in the driver’s seat and decide what I’d like to include in my weekly meal plan.
The most important takeaway though, is that our week works better when I DO have a meal plan, so I’m just hoping I have the discipline to continue this great habit.
All 4 of us eating the same thing: Now, I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but only Ian and I were doing the CSY program. The reason for this is that there were quite a few meals that I KNEW the kids would probably not like, so on those days I would make something separate for them.
Ugh. Yes, that was a lot of work.
But the good thing is that we got them to try every single meal that we were eating, so we know which ones they liked and which ones they didn’t like. We can now keep the favourites in our weekly rotation.
PROGRESS REPORT:
For those of you who are following my Weight Loss Journey, I know I’m a little overdue for a progress report. As with most things in life, there is a good reason for it.
Although I’ve been feeling pretty great lately, I have NO WEIGHT LOSS to report. None at all. I’ve been completely stuck at the same weight – actually, bouncing back and forth by 2-3 pounds – for weeks now.
Ok, who am I kidding, for months now.
Am I getting frustrated? Hell YES!
In fact, that could be a whole post itself. And I’m trying to get up the courage to write about it. But first I have to pull myself up out of the funk this has created and get moving.
On the positive side (I always have one of those) I’ve been doing some research and I just finished watching an incredible 9 part documentary series called The Thyroid Secret and I might be in the process of discovering a reason for this stand still. I will be going for some tests soon and will be sure to keep you posted.
CSY CONCLUSION:
For those of you who might be considering doing a program like Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy You, or something similar, I would highly recommend it! When we embarked on this journey we honestly didn’t know where we would end up.
It all started back in September, just wanting to kick-start some healthy eating. Now, here we are 6 months later, still meat-free and alcohol-free (who would have known!) and feeling GREAT. I have no idea why, but the kids are meat-free, by their own choice, and we could never have predicted that one!
No, I haven’t lost the weight I’ve been wanting to lose, and I’m NOT HAPPY about that, but if I just put things into perspective long enough, I can still say that I’ve gained more than I’ve lost – in terms of health and knowledge. Just not weight loss – but I’m getting there. I HAVE NOT GIVEN UP.
Till Next Time,
Keep Going 4Ward!
